IndiGo to Restart Kolkata-Siem Reap Route in October

A new direct air link between India's Kolkata and Cambodia's Siem Reap will launch on October 1, 2026, marking a significant step forward for tourism and commercial ties between the two nations, according to Sinn Chansereyvutha, spokesman for Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The carrier will operate three weekly services on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays using Airbus A320neo aircraft. Chansereyvutha characterized the route's return as an encouraging development for deepening bilateral relations.

The service originally launched in November 2025 but was later halted due to seasonal demand fluctuations. Its relaunch is expected to energize multiple sectors, particularly tourism, religious travel, and cross-border commerce.

"The route represents a major commercial opportunity for both nations, opening doors for collaborative tourism initiatives, appealing holiday packages, and enhanced connectivity," Chansereyvutha explained in a September 23 interview.

He added that Siem Reap Angkor International Airport stands ready to accommodate the returning flights with safe and efficient operations.

Currently, national flag carrier Air Cambodia maintains direct service between Phnom Penh and New Delhi.

Thoun Sinan, who leads the Pacific Asia Travel Association's Cambodia chapter, emphasized India's position as the world's second-largest source of international travelers after China. He noted that the flight resumption would deliver substantial advantages to Cambodia's tourism industry and trade relationships.

Tourism Ministry figures show Cambodia welcomed 71,046 Indian visitors in 2025, representing an 8.5 percent decline from the previous year. Through the first eight months of 2026, Indian arrivals totaled 35,905, down 19.2 percent year-on-year.

Cambodia's aviation sector currently includes four domestic airlines and 29 international carriers operating flights to and from the kingdom as of August 2026, according to civil aviation authorities.
